Mt. Gox's trustee did not let the clock run out on 31 October 2026. A notice dated 16 October moved the repayment deadline by a full year to 31 October 2027, Japan time. It is the fourth one-year extension since the original 2023 date, according to CryptoTicker and Blockhead.

The detail most coverage skips is how much of the supply story remains unchanged. As of 07:30 WIB on 1 November 2026, roughly 34,000 bitcoin still sit in estate wallets, per the trustee's figure relayed by Blockhead. That is about US$2.75 billion at US$80,000 per bitcoin, a price bitcoin was trading around on 29 October. A deadline that keeps those coins in one place is a supply calendar, and it just moved by twelve months.

For Indonesia crypto traders, the useful question is not whether Mt. Gox will sell. It is what the data actually shows before the crypto and blockchain community gathers at Web3 Week Asia on 11-12 November 2026 in Jakarta, ten days after 1 November 2026.

Notice. Trustee Nobuaki Kobayashi announced the change on 16 October 2026, with court permission (CryptoTicker, Blockhead, TokenPost).

New deadline. 31 October 2027, Japan time. It covers the base, early lump-sum and intermediate repayments. The previous deadline was 31 October 2026.

Still held. About 34,000 BTC per the trustee; 34,387 BTC in Arkham-labelled wallets on 30 September; 34,387.51 BTC in an earlier snapshot cited by TokenPost.

Reason given. Many creditors have not completed the procedures needed to be paid, and some were not paid because of problems in the repayment process.

Market backdrop. Bitcoin slipped from above US$81,700 to about US$79,800 in the Asian session on 29 October, with US$356 million of futures liquidated in 24 hours, of which US$205 million were longs (CoinDesk).

Why a one-year extension matters more than a payout date

The extension history is regular. Counting from the original 31 October 2023 date, the deadline moved on 21 September 2023 to 31 October 2024, on 10 October 2024 to 31 October 2025, on 27 October 2025 to 31 October 2026, and on 16 October 2026 to 31 October 2027 (CryptoTicker). The notice came 15 days before the cutoff this time, versus four days before in 2025, a gap of 11 days that we computed from those two dates.

Why this matters: Mt. Gox creditors were repaid in bitcoin and bitcoin cash, and any creditor can sell what they receive. Each extension pushes out the date by which the remaining estate coins could reach creditors. A deadline is therefore a risk marker that traders watch, and moving it removes that marker for a year.

The reason the trustee gave is operational, not market-driven. The notice says many creditors have not finished the required procedures, and a considerable number could not be paid because of issues in the repayment process. The trustee says paying them "to the extent reasonably practicable" needs more time (Blockhead).

What the numbers say about the remaining coins

The September 2023 repayment plan covered about 142,000 BTC (Blockhead). Against that, 34,387 BTC in labelled wallets is about 24% of the plan, a ratio we derived from one source for the plan figure, so treat it as indicative.

Creditor counts are older. About 19,500 creditors had been repaid in BTC and BCH by the trustee's March 2025 update (Blockhead, TokenPost). No source reviewed gives a current count, so the share of creditors still unpaid cannot be calculated from public data.

More than 140,000 BTC moved to a single new wallet in May 2024, and by August 2024 the estate's addresses held about 46,000 BTC, down from 141,000 (Blockhead). Blockhead notes that those movements were not market sales. The difference between 46,000 and 34,387 is 11,613 BTC, but the sources use different snapshots, so that gap is a rough guide, not an audited figure.

Market context: a thin bid, not a Mt. Gox bid

CoinDesk reported that bitcoin fell below US$80,000 on 29 October after a Federal Reserve hold at 3.75-4%, described by analysts as a hawkish hold. Samsung shares fell more than 5%, Kospi fell more than 2% and Nasdaq futures fell 1.4% in the same session (CoinDesk).

Why it matters: the price weakness had an identified macro and tech-stock backdrop. Mt. Gox's extension was announced on 16 October, when CryptoTicker recorded bitcoin at about US$82,800 on 19 October, up roughly 1.5% in a day, with no immediate price reaction to the postponement. A causal link between the extension and the later decline is not established by any source reviewed.

The honest counterweight

A delay is not a sale. The notice moves a deadline. None of the sources reviewed reports estate coins being sold or sent to exchanges after 16 October.

The holdings figure is not one number. Sources give about 34,000, 34,387, 34,387.51 and more than 34,500 BTC, from different dates and methods. We use a range and do not build any conclusion on a single figure.

Price data cannot isolate one cause. A single CoinDesk session report cannot say how much of a move came from the Fed, tech stocks, leveraged longs or estate supply.

What this means for Indonesia crypto traders

Indonesian users trade a global asset in rupiah, so supply events abroad reach local order books through the bitcoin price. OJK data reported by Investortrust, Fortune Indonesia and Tokocrypto News put August 2026 crypto transaction value at Rp23.16 trillion, up 12.87% from July, with 23.21 million consumer accounts.

Tax data adds a second angle. According to Liputan6, citing Director General of Taxes Bimo Wijayanto, crypto tax receipts were Rp300.28 billion in January-September 2026, against Rp796.74 billion for all of 2025. That is about 38% of the 2025 total after nine of twelve months, a ratio we computed. The source gives no explanation, and this article does not claim one. It is a single-source figure.

No source reviewed links Mt. Gox to either Indonesian series.

Methodology: We computed US$2.75 billion as 34,387 BTC x US$80,000, 24% as 34,387 / 142,000, 11,613 BTC as 46,000 minus 34,387, 38% as 300.28 / 796.74 and the 11-day gap between the 2025 and 2026 notices from the notice dates. The 142,000 BTC plan figure and the holdings figures rest on Blockhead and TokenPost, and holdings snapshots differ, so we show ranges. We excluded unverified prediction pieces and price targets, and the BTC level is an approximate session figure from CoinDesk, not a closing price.
