Indonesia's crypto trading value jumped almost a third in one month, but the number of accounts barely moved. OJK reported on 5 November 2026 that crypto asset transactions reached Rp30.56 trillion in September, up 31.96% from August, while consumer accounts rose only 1.29% to 23.51 million.

That gap is the story. If accounts grew 1.3% and value grew 32%, the extra volume came mostly from accounts that already existed. Dividing the two figures gives about Rp1.30 million of trading per account in September, against about Rp1.00 million in August, a rise of roughly 30% (derived, see Methodology).

Indonesia is also the home market of Web3 Week Asia, a two-day crypto and blockchain event in Jakarta on 11-12 November 2026. All figures below are OJK data for September 2026 unless stated otherwise.

Transaction value. Rp30.56 trillion in September 2026, up 31.96% month on month (Kontan, Akurat). Voice of ASEAN reports 31.95%, a rounding difference.

Accounts. 23.51 million consumer accounts, up 1.29% month on month (Kontan, Akurat). Voice of ASEAN gives 23.48 million as the investor count. These are accounts, not unique investors.

Two-month climb. From Rp20.52 trillion in July to Rp23.16 trillion in August (up 12.87%), then Rp30.56 trillion in September (Voice of ASEAN).

Derivatives. Digital financial asset derivatives reached Rp5.8 trillion, up 27.19% month on month, according to Akurat. Single source.

The overlooked detail: value grew 25 times faster than accounts

Compare the two growth rates for the same month. Transaction value rose 31.96%. Accounts rose 1.29%. Value therefore grew about 25 times faster than the account base (31.96 divided by 1.29 is 24.8).

Two readings fit the data, and the data cannot separate them. Existing users may have traded more often or in larger size. Or a small group of very active accounts may have driven most of the increase. OJK does not publish a breakdown by account activity, so this article does not pick one.

The two-month picture

The September figure is the second consecutive monthly rise. Value gained Rp2.64 trillion from July to August and Rp7.40 trillion from August to September, Rp10.04 trillion in total. September alone added nearly three times the increase of the month before (7.40 divided by 2.64 is 2.8).

That acceleration is the part worth watching. A rise of 12.87% followed by 31.96% is a month that sped up, not a steady climb.

What OJK and market data say about the cause

OJK's Adi Budiarso linked the trend to growing consumer trust in the digital financial asset ecosystem, as reported by Akurat. Akurat notes that the article does not identify a specific cause for the jump.

Market data points to a price tailwind. Voice of ASEAN reports Bitcoin rose about 6.38% in September, trading between US$74,945 and US$87,395, and that US spot Bitcoin ETFs took in US$2.39 billion in net inflows during the trading week of 21-25 September 2026. Both are single-source figures. A rising market tends to pull more trading, but the size of that effect in Indonesia is not measured here.

The honest counterweight

Volume is not participation. A 32% rise in transaction value does not mean 32% more people trade crypto. Accounts grew 1.29%, and an account is not a unique or active investor.

Cause is not established. OJK cites trust, commentators cite price and ETF flows. No source in this review quantifies how much each contributed.

September is not now. Bitcoin traded near US$76,150 on 6 November 2026 after a 5.3% fall in the prior 24 hours, according to CoinDesk, below September's range. Whether Indonesian volume followed will only show when OJK publishes October data.

Indonesia crypto: what to watch in the next OJK release

The next OJK data point, for October 2026, will answer a clear question: did trading value hold above Rp30 trillion when prices were lower? If accounts stay near 23.5 million while value falls, the September jump was concentrated in active traders. If accounts rise faster, new users are entering.

OJK also publishes these figures monthly, so the October release gives a direct before-and-after read on how September's jump held up.

Web3 Week Asia 2026: blockchain event in Jakarta, 11-12 November

Web3 Week Asia takes place on 11-12 November 2026 in Jakarta, Indonesia. According to the official site as of 2 October 2026, it is organised around four tracks: Investor Meetups, Alpha Callers, Web3 Entrepreneur and Indonesia Crypto Outlook 2026. The speaker line-up was listed as to be announced soon at that date.

The Indonesia Crypto Outlook theme fits this data directly: how large the local market is, who trades in it and how regulation shapes it. Whether any session covers OJK's September figures has not been announced.

According to the organisers, the 2025 edition drew more than 5,000 participants, over 100 speakers and more than 200 companies from more than 10 countries.

Methodology: Transaction per account is transaction value divided by accounts. September: Rp30.56 trillion divided by 23.51 million is about Rp1.30 million. August accounts are estimated as 23.51 million divided by 1.0129 (about 23.21 million), which matches Voice of ASEAN's 23.21 million for August, giving about Rp1.00 million. The roughly 30% rise is the ratio of the two. Accounts are not active traders, so this is an average, not typical behaviour. Growth ratios and monthly increases use the figures shown. The account count (23.51 million) and Voice of ASEAN's investor count (23.48 million) differ and both are shown. Single-source figures are attributed in the text. The OJK October release date is an expectation from cadence, not an announcement.
